CHAPTER 9 - ANIMATED BRIEFING

Now go to the Briefing window. There we will add an animated briefing to your mission (which should be already playtested and bug free).

First step, go the "Strings" screen. Write down there all the caption sentences your animated briefing will have. Write too all the map tags you may want to display (so you first need to have some precise ideas of what your briefing will look like :P).

Second step, on the WYSIWYG screen, set up the "Run time" (briefing duration in seconds). Usually, 6-7 seconds per caption sentence is needed.

Third step, add the instructions in a chronological order, use the "time bar" in the WYSIWYG screen to move in the briefing time. Let at least 6 seconds between two "Add Text" instruction, to give enough time to the player to read the displayed lines. You don't need to add page break instructions when adding a text instruction, it is automatically done.

There is no golden rule for animated briefings, it is a matter of personal feeling, and practice. Do simple things to begin, use more advanced commands like moving icons only once you understand how other basic commands work. Keep in mind you can only highlight 8 icons and display 8 map tags at a time. "Playtest" your briefing in XWA very often to see the result of your work, although the WYSIWYG play of AlliED give you nearly the same result (except for the briefing speed), unlike TFW for Tie Fighter...

"Mission Crafts" list: the list of flight groups displayed right before the animated briefing. These are NOT those from the "Strings" page. As previously stated, to have a flight group displayed here, its two first arrival condition strings must be set up to "100% of Flight Group (1st FG of the list) must always true", the two strings being linked by "AND". These are the default arrival conditions for AlliED normally.
