Global goals
What are global goals? Global goals are goals that go beyond a single flight group. You can think about goals like "destroy all Rebel X-wings", or "destroy all transports and shuttles". Now you could easily reach those goals by adding flight group goals, but then you would get a list of primary goals like in the image below. It doesn't look nice, and most importantly, the player wont be able to remember all of them, which makes it frustrating to fight the battle. However, if you were to create a goal that simply said "all shuttles and transports must be destroyed", then you would have two major advantages: first, the mission goals screen would only show a single line, and second: the player will not know upfront how many ships he will have to destroy. This makes global goals very interesting. Other than that, they work exactly the same as normal goals.
Creating global goals To create global goals, select the global goals item in the mission menu. The following window will show up: Again, we have the Goal Selector, where you can choose between primary, secondary and bonus goals. For each of these, you can set a maximum of two global goals. Sometimes, this requires careful planning. You can't have a mission where the primary goal is to destroy 75% of all B-wings, 75% of all X-wings and 75% of all A-wings, since that would require three global goals. Important is the logical operator between the two gobal goals: you can select either AND or OR. In the first case, both global goals show up separately (see the primary goals in the image below). Both goals must be completed in order to win the mission. However, if you select OR, the goals will show up linked together (see the secondary goals). Now, the player has to complete only one of the two goals in order to win the mission. This gives you some interesting options. For example, let's say you need to protect a flag officer from being killed. The flag is travelling on a VSD under attack by B-wings. When its hull goes critical, the flag will escape in a shuttle. Now your goal could simply be "ISD Something OR Shuttle Whatever" must have completed mission". This way, the better pilots that manage to save the ISD will complete the mission, and lesser pilots that cannot accomplish it can still win the mission by protecting the shuttle.
