GETTING STARTED

First things first

To be able to start working on the wiki, you need a few things:
a webbrowser
the address to the wiki
an account
information to add

I'm not going to go into the first if you don't mind. As for the second, you can find the wiki here: http://wiki.emperorshammer.org/ On the left is a few menu items. these don't do much yet. What's most interesting is the top of the page:

At the top right, you see your own IP address, a link called talk for this ip (which does nothing) and the log in / create account link.

Below that, you see a few tabs: article, discussion, edit and history.

Let's go over a few of these:

log in / create account

If you have an account, you can log in here with your username and password. Unfortunately, the wiki database is not connected to the EH database, so you need to create an account before you can log in. I'm assuming everyone knows how to log in.

If you don't have an account yet, hit the link, and then pick create an account. You then get the following page:

You can pick whatever you want for your username, but it is by far the easiest to just use your EH username. Pick a password, and you're home free. I suggest you add an e-mail address, but that is optional, just as your real name. If you decide to use an e-mail address, you will receive an e-mail at the address you entered: e-mail addresses need to be authenticated to make sure they're correct.

After you have created an account, you can log in, and return to the main page. If you look at the items on the top left, you'll see it has now changed into this:

There's some new links there that we'll talk about as well.

my preferences

Just have a look, it's should be pretty much self-explanatory. You can change your password, language and e-mail address.

my watchlist

Everytime you view a page, you can add it to your watchlist. Adding a page means you can easily see when the page in question has been edited. If you entered an e-mail address, you will receive an e-mail. A nice trick to make sure no one messes with your entry!

my contributions

This shows a chronological list of all the pages you created or worked on. You can see which changes you made, and even choose to undo them. We will go into this later.

log out

Dûh. I know it's Wiki Editing for Dummies but I do expect you to know what "log out" means :)

article

Shows the article.

discussion

We don't use this. You can see this, because it's red, where the other tab's letters are in white.

edit

Shows you the wiki source for the article. Here you can make changes. This is probably the most important part of your entire wiki experience.

history

This will show you the full history of the article, including changes that were made, when they were made, and who made them.

move

This will create a new article with the name you provide, and copy all the content from the current article to the new one. The current content will be deleted, and a re-direct page will be created. This is usually a bad idea, because links to this article will NOT be updated automatically.

watch

This will add the article to your watchlist.
